At a political event yesterday in Chicago promoting Raise Illinois, which pushes raising the minimum wage to $10 per hour or beyond, Preacher Quinn spoke in tongues:
“There’s a principle as old as the Bible…If you work 40 hours a week, if you’re doing your job, you shouldn’t have to live in poverty.”
Of course, if the Illinois Democrats were really concerned about those “in poverty” and that a minimum wage of $10 would cure poverty, they could have got it done before the legislative session ended, since they have controlled all levers of power for over a decade.
So I think it is safe to assume this has nothing to do with helping the downtrodden and everything to do with getting elected.
But so what? Pointing out Democrat hypocrisy and cynicism in Illinois is hardly breaking news.
What I thought was more entertaining were the 7 reasons Raising Illinois put forth for raising the minimum wage. Go to the link for the full hootalicious scoop—all the lame liberal talking points are there. I especially liked #7: “Uphold human dignity”.
The only things missing:
1. Raising the minimum wage will secure world peace
2. Raising the minimum wage will heal the planet and stop climate change
3. Raising the minimum wage will end racism as we know it
4. Raising the minimum wage will get you laid every day.
Hey, what’s not to like?
