Friday Dump

`Via Illinois Review GOP US Senate candidate Jim Oberweis is demanding the Dick Durbin release all his correspondence with Lois Lerner and any other IRS official concerning his pushing them to target TEA Party/Conservative groups. The Dick and other Democrat hacks are the subject of a Senate ethics complaint on this very matter.

I say bravo to Oberweis for bringing this out in the open, but considering this is Illinois, where the electorate voted for Blago twice, I doubt this will get much traction—corruption and ethics just don’t count for much, it’s just The Chicago Way.

Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-NARAL) claims to be “fighting” To Protect Seniors From Cuts To Local Social Security Offices, when in fact she is “fighting” to protect and expand the federal union workforce.

The spin:

“Seniors across our region of Illinois rely on in-person service at their local Social Security field offices for help getting the benefits they have earned after a lifetime of hard work.”

When I attained geezerhood while living in Illinois I applied for these “benefits” I had earned at the Rock Island office. I got there early with a cast of thousands already waiting. So after a while I wandered up to the front desk and asked how long the wait would be. The lady asked why I was there and then told me to go to either the phone or website to git ‘er done. Which I did with great success. Trust me, geezers do not want to waste their precious end-of-life time waiting at the SS office.

Which proves to me that Bustos is more about pandering to public employee unions than geezers.

Take it from someone who knows.

Homofascism in Illinois:

“A group that championed the same-sex marriage issue in Illinois is calling for gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner to return a new round of contributions he receive from the DeVos family, known nationally for being major funders to groups opposing gay and lesbian rights.”

Whatever. They got a scalp with the Mozilla guy but the Chik-Fil-A boycott backfired big time.

I used to believe that the best way to do “campaign finance reform” was to open it up to everyone with no caps or limits, but demand immediate and transparent reporting. I don’t believe that any more after watching the gay rights activists go after people who don’t march lockstep with them and demand—and in some cases get those people fired from their jobs and have their private homes invaded.

  1. You can’t make this stuff up…

The candidate for Illinois governor was asked Friday about a Chicago Tribune report last week. It showed business income-loss tax rules allowed Rauner to pay no Social Security or Medicare taxes in those years despite income of $55 million.

Rauner told reporters in Springfield that “we’ve paid full taxes as appropriate.” Asked whether the exemption is fair to all wage-earners, he said: “We can talk about how we should reform our tax code.” He says that discussion is forthcoming.

  2. Nice try Randy, but the SS cap is $113,700 for ’13 and $117,000 for ’14. Even populist hero Phil Hare and his lovely wife make more than that in taxpayer funded moolah.

But still, if you can’t convince the morons and rubes, how will you win?

  3. Really…you can’t make this stuff up QCe.

Rauner used strategy now under IRS scrutiny to slash income taxes

    July 02, 2014
By Jeff Coen and Bob Secter, Tribune reporters

“IRS data show Bruce Rauner to be one of the 11,000 richest tax filers in the nation, but most of the millions he made was taxed at 15 percent — less than half the top federal rate for the wealthy, a review of tax documents released by the GOP governor hopeful shows.”

“Despite his reporting healthy earnings in other income categories and listing a combined adjusted gross income for those years of about $55 million, Rauner did not pay any Social Security or Medicare taxes in 2010 and 2011.”

Rauner has already made public state and federal returns for three years: 2010, 2011 and 2012. But Quinn said they don’t contain detailed schedules, which offer more information about Rauner’s business dealings and how he made his wealth.

“We don’t need a loophole governor,” Quinn said at a Chicago plumbers’ hall. “The schedules tell the tale. All the detail is needed to determine if there are conflicts of interest and what loopholes are being used by Mr. Rauner to slash his tax burden and shift that burden onto working people.”

  4. Bruce Rauner is the gift that keeps on giving….

Today Crain’s Chicago Business reports that a company owned by Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner started making campaign contributions to Illinois Democrats just after it won a multimillion-dollar Cook County contract.

In 2000 the Cook County Board approved a deal with HealthRev Inc. to collect Medicaid bills. County records show HealthRev was paid $8.8 million. HealthRev was owned until 2004 by GTCR LLC, a firm owned by Rauner.

State records obtained by Crain’s show that just after the deal was approved the company made the first of $8,000 in contributions to then-Cook County President John Stroger’s campaign and a related account. – NBC Chicago, 7/9/14

  5. I can’t tell you how shocked I am that the thug Obama is using the IRS to go after Democrat political opponents. Quinn likely cried like a little girl demanding Obama save him and sic the IRS on Rauner.

Apparently Rauner is doing nothing illegal, and I can’t wait to see how many liberal fat cat billionaires are also “investigated” for doing the exact same thing.

Also, pay to play? In Illinois? Shocking!!!

Randy is proof that hyper-partisanship causes brain damage.
