The Paul Tsongas Memorial Pander Bear Award 05/09/2014

The Hill:

“Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Friday it is wrong for the GOP to get too wrapped up in voter identification laws because they are offending people, in particular African Americans.

‘Everybody’s gone completely crazy on this voter ID thing…I think it’s wrong for Republicans to go too crazy on this issue because it’s offending people’.”

  1. yeah … all our laws should be based on whether or not some entitled group is offended or not.

Of course offending Christians or conservatives or whites is a badge of honer, in the PC religion.

  2. I used to have some hope for Paul, but as of today it looks like he’s Not Ready For Prime Time.

As you mentioned, if the GOP limits its policies to stuff that doesn’t “offend” anyone, there ain’t much left—forget post-birth abortion on demand, amnesty, affirmative action, etc. etc.

That’s just so pathetic that he is caving to DEMOCRAT special interests so early in the game. He’s just another one of the GOPers who believe the only way to win POTUS is be Democrat-Lite.

    Buh-bye Rand.

  3. A few years ago I posted an opinion piece online opposing voter ID requirements. As time went by, I gradually came over to the side of beingin favor of such laws, so long as the IDs are provided free of charge to the lowest income brackets.

However, what hasn’t changed are the facts regarding the minuscule occurrence of voter fraud and the reality that the vast majority of voter fraud occurs via absentee voting, which doesn’t involve voter ID and which the GOP isn’t seeking to reform.

I recently read an article that explains where Senator Paul (I still hope to call him President Paul after 2016) is coming from to some extent. I believe it’s a good read.

  4. I don’t think it is really all that rare, although you are correct that the preferred method of fraud is absentee ballots.

Recently there was a scandal in North Carolina (if I remember correctly) that discovered tens of thousands of illegal votes. Also the lady who bragged about voting for Obama four times on the same day, etc.

31 states have (or had) voter ID laws although Holder is going after them with a vengeance, which makes me think Democrats believe they can’t win if they don’t cheat. 😀
