We hear that [Rock Island County] farm people are staying away from town for fear of having their teams impressed into government service as they were last week.

  1. I think you mislabeled the date. It’s 1863, not 1864. And how dare the government press horses into service. But could there have been some sort of large government “project” going on (full of waste, fraud and abuse, I’m sure) where horses were needed in large supply? Perhaps somewhere south of Illinois? A project to prevent persons from “impressing” other Americans (not horses) in hard labor for zero wages based on the color of their skin?

  2. Hey, just do the math—the D/A says it is from 150 years ago, so 2014-1864=150. They screwed up, not me.

The rest of your comment is just batpoop crazy—but I like that in a commenter. 😀
