Returning to her district for recess after voting for the Ryan-Murray Bipartisan Budget, Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-NARAL) crowed:
“I’m very pleased with the fact that…we passed a bipartisan budget, that we came together, and…we did what was right for America.”
Unfortunately, what may have been right for America appears to not have been right for Bustos because immediately a firestorm broke out over the cuts in military pensions contained in the budget.
Oops! Oh, well—Cheri to the rescue of the pension cuts she was for before she was against them!
Conveniently, to all who were foolish enough to vote for this even though these cuts were known days in advance of the vote, there is circulating a bipartisan bill that would repeal these pension cuts.
This craven move was trumpeted by a Bustos press release ironically titled:
Reps. Bustos, Loebsack Fight to Protect Military Retirees From Benefit Cuts
I don’t think Loebsack voted for the budget, but it seems that according to the press release Bustos is FIGHTING against (with?) herself.
So amusing—no wonder she refused to vote for any budget until now, and when she finally fired up to vote for one clusterfark happens. Better to pull an Obama and just vote “present”—it’s the safest route to re-election.
