Quote Of The Day

From activist Kathy Dirr at a TEA Party rally yesterday in DC:

“The [Republican] leadership is worried about a government shutdown and they’re worried about future elections . . . And to me that’s like a house that’s burning to the ground and the Republicans won’t put out the fire because they’re afraid that some water might splash on a nearby house. I say to the Republican leadership: take off your lace panties, stop being noodle backs, take a strong, bold, unwavering stand for the American people.”

  1. Respectfully disagree.

In fact, it’s more like not wanting to NUKE a city because you are fearful of the effects it might have on future generations.

The only reason that GOPers don’t want a shut down is because they don’t want OBAMA to win in 2012 and they want to get rid of Obamacare.

Tea partiers have to remember that when Phil Hare voted for Obamacare he was doing so out of principle. He was doing what he thought was right, not what the American people wanted.

If our nation’s entire future wasn’t hinged on the re-election of Obama and Obamacare, I would support shutting it down just to prove that the tea partiers are wrong in this instance.

  2. Also all of these “solutions” and “principles” are coming from the same people who thought that we had a “mandate” to reform social security and a “mandate” to invade Iraq.

I would argue that those are the reasons why we have Obamacare in the first place.

  3. AJ, I don’t agree with Dirr either—I just liked the “take off your lace panties” bit—yeah, I know, kinda pervy. 🙂

With the GOP only in control of the House, all this TEA Party fantasy stuff ain’t gonna happen, so I assume (and hope!) Boehner will be able to get the best deal he can for fiscal conservatives considering the obstacles.

  4. Not necessarily for shutting the government down either, but every day its shut down is another dollar saved…and usually the best deal goes to the one most committed or in this case the one willing to take it the farthest….
