What One Party Dirty Backroom Redistricting Looks Like

Christopher Mooney, political science professor at the University of Illinois at Springfield:

“There’s a room where all the data and computers are and staffers are that are working on [redistricting]. They bring in members, one, two at a time, three at a time and say ‘What do you want? This is what you’re going to get, this is what we’re going to do’ . . . There’s gnashing of teeth, screaming and pulling of hair and crying.”

This is what democracy looks like in our wonderful State O’ Illinois.

  1. Sorry, but in Illinois we have people of color and therefore the neat little lines they draw in Iowa are not transferable to large diverse populations or states (See Voting Right Act). Try again…

  2. Sorry, but if the Iowegian way of redistricting had violated the Voting Rights Act, I’m sure someone would have noticed by now.

Sorry, but LiR didn’t ask me to parrot state law on redistricting, he asked what I thought would be a better idea—which I did. The fact that the Illinois constitution would have to be amended is not relevant here, since LiR asked a “if you ruled the world” type question.

Sorry, but unless you offer alternatives rather than brain dead silliness, your comments will not make it out of moderation.

Sorry—try again or go to spam hell.

  3. Well T, this year’s redistricting will be interesting because there will be no Republicans—just Democrat dogs.

I look for some serious Dem on Dem violence as these dogs fight over every bone and scrap of meat from our dying State O’ Illinois.

My tip: Invest in popcorn because this show’s gonna be a hoot!
