The City Of Rock Island Helps The Downtrodden Buy Shoes

Some provisions of the new contract agreement between the City of Rock Island and AFSCME:

“In addition to the 1 percent wage increase retroactive to Jan. 10, AFSCME-A employees also will receive an allowance increase from $100 to $120 for work boots. Changes also were made to the over-time assignment procedure for refuse collectors, and a standard department sick leave call-in policy was developed.”

Rock Island has some of the worst poverty cases in the county, yet tax money is spent on buying shoes for the politically connected rather than the truly needy.

How liberal.

Everyone else must endure budget cuts, lost jobs, cuts in pay and layoffs, but Big Labor always gets the sweet deal financed on the backs of over-burdened taxpayers.
