Our Specially Rejected Congressman

QuincyNews.org commissioned a poll of registered voters in the 17th CD asking the question: “If the election for your Member of Congress was held today, would you likely vote to re-elect Phil Hare?”

The results:

Yes 39.59%

No 47.03%

Unsure 13.38%

As you might imagine, the partisan divide was great between Dems and the GOP, but the poll shows a quarter of Democrats said either “No” or “Unsure”.

As for Independents, a whopping 70% said “No” or “Unsure”.

Go to the link for further details. This poll was very well done and QNO showed their work, which most news organizations don’t—they prefer to cherry-pick what they want the public to know.

It’s sad, really; Hare was specially selected for us by Democrat elites to represent a district that was specially drawn for Democrats, he has been congressman for three years, has name recognition and plenty of money, yet 60% of registered voters polled say they don’t want him back or don’t know if they want him back.

You’re doin’ a heckuva job Philster!

So Much For The “Obama Is Lincoln/FDR Incarnate” Meme

Der Spiegel:

“Obama’s advisors fear a comparison [of Obama] with former Democratic President Jimmy Carter, even more than with [George W.] Bush.”

When you’ve lost the Euro-weenies, you’ve lost the world.

Piss Or Get Off The Pot

David Kilcullen, an expert on counterinsurgency strategy, about Obama’s dysfunctional decision making:

“As an analogy, you have a building on fire, and it’s got a bunch of firemen inside. There are not enough firemen to put it out. You have to send in more or you have to leave. It is not appropriate to stand outside pontificating about not taking lightly the responsibility of sending firemen into harm’s way. Either put in enough firemen to put out the fire or get out of the house.”

It is becoming clear to me that Obama does not have the ability to make tough decisions and does not have what it takes to be a successful Commander in Chief.

I never thought I’d say this, but in view of the facts about Obama’s immense deficiencies, I believe it would be best to pull out of Afghanistan ASAP. Sure it will create chaos and danger to our nation, but that will be Obama’s cross to bear—and the voters who blindly and willingly elected a blank slate with absolutely zero executive experience.

Not one more of our soldiers should have to die because Obama is grossly unqualified for his current position.

(Not) Driving A Hard Bargain

Scott Reeder asks the question about Gitmo On Big Muddy that no one else is asking: Why is Pat Quinn selling Thomson prison to Obama for only $120 million?

The State O’ Illinois is in a world of hurt financially, brought on by Blago and the Democrat controlled legislature, and even though polling indicates moving terrorists to Thomson is wildly unpopular with Illinoisians, Reeder points out that higher taxes and cut services aren’t popular either, so if Quinn is to sell Thomson in order to improve our financial condition, he needs to go big.

This is what Reeder thinks Quinn ought to tell the feds:

“If you bail us out of the financial mess that Rod Blagojevich got us into, we will sell. Oh, and that will be $12 billion.”

This seems about right; Quinn is so desperate to claim he is “creating” jobs in the state that he is willing to practically give away one of his few assets.

Reeder also suggests renaming Thomson prison to something more “sinister—even repulsive” in order to strike fear in the hearts of jihadists everywhere by renaming it Rod Blagojevich Terrorist Detainment Facility.

This just might be the ultimate solution to terrorism we have been searching for.

You Can’t Handle The Truth

Dan Proft, Republican candidate for Illinois governor in The QCTimes:

“Unlike the others in this race, our campaign refuses to content ourselves with opposing tax increases or playing the politicians’ game of promising tax cuts after they balance the budget that they never balance.”

I doubt Illinois voters can handle that level of honesty, but what he says is true.

If I didn’t have to take out a Democrat ballot for the primary in order to fight the RICO Dark Force, I would vote for him.

We can’t keep voting for the status quo and expect change.

Many, including me at one time, believed Obama was “different”, but by now it is clear that he is just a retro, neo-liberal McGovern/Carter clone—there is nothing “special” about Obama except his skin color.

The Democrats have been allowed to drive our state into the ditch with their unchecked power and their unchecked spending, and ‘10 is our opportunity stop it.

Rearranging Deck Chairs On The Titanic

From The Chicago Sun-Times:

“The Illinois Department of Employment Security reported that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rose from 10.5 percent to 11 percent between September and October, bringing the rate to its highest mark since August 1983. As recently as October 2008, the unemployment rate was 6.8 percent.”

Yet at a recent Democrat candidate’s forum in Rock Island the mood was upbeat.

The Democrats have controlled Illinois government for seven years, and on their watch, not only has unemployment reached the highest levels in a generation, Illinois is now the third worst state for financial condition and has the third highest foreclosure rate.

But hey, don’t blame the Democrats, the just have total and complete control of state government—it’s not like they have any real power.

According to The Dispatch, the Democrats have suddenly discovered the way to success:

“Across the board, the Democratic candidates touted job creation, economic development, ethics reform, the environment, education, health care reform and fixing the state budget.”

No one bothered to explain why all these wonderful things haven’t happened in the seven years they had the power to accomplish them without interference from those pesky GOPers.

It seems the Democrat plan for “job creation” is to induce the federal government to buy Thomson prison, since the Democrat controlled state government could never find the funds to staff it. Way to go Illinois Democrats—you got your own personal bailout from Obama!

Their other stated “goals” are just laughable—if these things could have been done, they would have done them.

Democrat candidate for comptroller, Raja Krishnamoorth, offered this hilarious prediction:

“Tomorrow Illinois (led by Democrats) will become a better place . . . only with a few new leaders at the helm.”

Yeah, just like the Titanic could have been prevented from sinking by rearranging a few more deck chairs.

Sheesh! To be an Illinois Democrat is to be delusional.

Our Specially Selected Big Pharma Mouthpiece

From a New York Times article about how the speeches by many lawmakers during the House debate about overhauling health care were written in whole or in part by DC lobbyists working for Big Pharma:

“In remarks on the House floor, Representative Phil Hare, a Democrat of Illinois, recalled that his family faced eviction when his father was sick and could not make payments on their home. He said the House bill would save others from such hardship. . . In a written addendum in the Congressional Record, Mr. Hare said the bill would also create high-paying jobs. Timothy Schlittner, a spokesman for Mr. Hare, said: ‘That part of the statement was drafted for us by Roche pharmaceutical company. It is something [Hare] agrees with.’

Pardon my cynicism, but if Phil Hare really believed that Pelosicare would “create high-paying jobs”, I do believe he wouldn’t have to be nudged by Big Pharma to say so.

Something For Everyone

Today The Dispatch featured the reax of some local politicians to the possibility of housing terrorists in Thomson prison.

The most interesting comments to me were those of the three Democrat candidates running for the Illinois House District 71 seat.

The difference among the candidates couldn’t be starker:

1. Jerry Lack, member of the Evans regime, parroted the approved Democrat party line: “I think it’s a great economic opportunity . . . I definitely support this opportunity”

2. Dennis Ahern was more circumspect and not in cheerleading mode: “I’m opposed to it. We have a 32 percent overcrowding issue right now in our state prisons . . . There is a prison in Afghanistan and a prison in Iraq that can house [terrorists].”

3. Porter McNeil, according to the Dispatch, “said he still is weighing the issue.”

For once, we are truly blessed with abundance here in the ILQCs. Normally the Politburo would have decided who would be the candidate and everyone else interested would be told to sit down, shut up and wait their turn. My guess is that Lack would have been the Politburo’s choice.

Instead of the Democrat elites being The Decider, we now can choose:

1. Lack, who is obviously the conventional Democrat who will represent the status quo.

2. Ahern, who appears to be a centrist Democrat more interested in the will of the people than the will of Democrat elites.

3. McNeil, an Obama-style Mr. Dithers candidate.

Of course no interview with a Democrat would be complete without the obligatory cheap shot at the GOP. This coveted task fell to Mike Boland:
“Jobs have to be our No. 1 priority. While the Republicans peddle fear, we choose jobs. . . Apparently Republicans do not think it is possible to chew gum and walk at the same time. . .”

Two things about this quote:

1. The GOP peddling “fear” is emerging as the leading Democrat tactic to kill debate on any issue. In this case, Boland is claiming that no rational person could possibly have any objections to a bunch of hard-core terrorists being incarcerated in our area—so it’s gotta be nothing more than cynical fearmongering, right?

2. All these wonderful “jobs” that the Democrats are swooning over will not be private sector jobs—they will be public sector jobs financed by our taxes, which are the only jobs Democrats approve and promote.
