Why Can’t Bill Just Let It Go?

Dozens of Orlando, Florida city-owned vehicles were vandalized with spray-painted anti-Obama and anti-McCain messages.

The vandals left business cards containing criticism of Obama and McCain on one side and pro-Hillary messages on the other.

While I’m sure some will blame the eeeevil GOP for this, the sure-fire way to know it was someone on the left who did the damage is to look at the messages left on the vehicles: “Obamama (and Oboma) smoks crack” .

It’s a dead give-away.

Stand And Deliver

I’ve been thinking about this post since last Sunday when Scott Reeder published one of those massive, dense complex reports in The Dispatch.

It’s about the absolute fecklessness and criminal behavior of our (s)elected state officials, who continue to appease the special interests but refuse to do the hard work of screwing the taxpayers to pay for the appeasement.

The original story is too complex to distill, but here’s the nut:

** Illinois taxpayers owe 44 BILLION in pension payments to teachers and state employees. Fun Fax: The IL constitution provides that state-funded pensions CANNOT be reduced. The cost to us: $9,582.00 per household.

**Over the last 5 years, the state has expanded the number of people eligible for Medicaid and the like by 67%. The result is late or no payment to doctors and hospitals to the point where some are now refusing to accept these patients.

**The state general obligation debt has more than tripled since Blago came to power. In ‘03 it was 8 BILLION, now it is 20 BILLION.

**Grand total: $64 BILLION unfunded debt OBLIGATIONS—these must be paid.

Unsurprisingly, no one in Springfield wants the responsibility for making the tough decisions—-screwing taxpayers to get more money to fund our politician’s generosity —or screwing the reliable Democrat union constituency.

But even in the face of this terrible crises, guess what—-the bureaucrat’s union (AFSCME) still wants more!

Illinois is a blue state controlled by Democrats—there is no way they will tell one of their primary special interest groups to buzz off in favor of the taxpayers.

Those of us who lived around the QCs in the ’80s during the farm crises when union activists crowed they would “shut down” Farmall and others, know how destructive unions can be. Yes, the unions shut down Farmall—and all the good paying jobs that went with it—-be careful what you wish for, you might get it.

But still, it’s a shame that the wonderful State O’ Illinois can’t just declare bankruptcy like some of the farm inplement companies did (before they went overseas) and get it over. Considering the absolute incompetence of the people we send (over and over) to Springfield, we would be better off dissolving the State and letting each of the bordering states take their fair share of the state and divide the debt among them.

I just don’t see any way our politicians will ever have the political will to either say no to the unions or to raise our taxes to appease said union demands.

Many people with the means are bailing out of Illinois—-I hope to join them soon.

As for Hope And Change in Illinois—not a chance!

I’ll Huff And I’ll Puff And I’ll Blow Your Door Down!

A Phil Hare press release has been making its way up and down the 17th in the wake of the flooding. The press release didn’t appear in the Dispatch, but this quote comes from an excerpt in the Burlington, Iowa newspaper:

It is simply inexplicable that President Bush has failed to make adequate federal disaster declarations for several flood ravaged counties in my district. People are homeless. Towns are underwater. Entire communities are waiting for the federal help they expect and deserve in the richest country in the world.

President Bush has acknowledged past failures when it comes to responding to natural disasters. I urge him to learn from from his mistakes and quickly make assistance available to all those who need it. My constituents are running out of patience, and so am I.

What arrogant jackassery!

It seems union-style thuggery and intimidation is all he knows—good luck with that Phil, especially when you need something from someone.

Does Hare really believe Bush is delaying action deliberately?

Does Hare think his bully tactics will actually HELP our situation?

What gives here—is it just another pathetic case of unchecked and untreated BDS?

I’m serious here—I really don’t understand Hare’s tactics on this. Who is the audience for these attacks on Bush? Do Democrats in the 17th need constant unhinged Bush-bashing in order to feel good about selecting Hare? Who believes Bush is being putative about this, rather than following the protocol for aid? Are Representatives and Senators from bordering Iowa and Missouri doing this sort of Bush-bashing too?

I honestly don’t understand what Hare hopes to achieve with this sort of divisive idiocy.

So Happy Together

One of the many inexplicable events concerning the current race for POTUS is the inordinate amount of attention paid to the Obama/Clinton unity thing.

Any other losing candidate would just receed into the background and promise to do everything he/she could to help the winner get to the White House. I realize Hillary is the wife of a former POTUS, but what and who is driving all the media attention on the unity business?

Obviously, I have no way of knowing since I’m neither a Democrat nor a journalist, so rather than opine about the big Unity Summit in Unity NH, I’ll just comment on the one thing that caught my attention about the whole staged charade—fashion!

I don’t mean to go all girly here, but what I noticed immediately when Obama and Hillary took the stage was that they were color coordinated—his tie matched her pants suit.

I didn’t think adults did this sort of thing. The only time I’ve seen His ‘n’ Hers color coordination was at prom time. The Dispatch recently ran prom photos submitted by some of the participants and this is when I first noticed the trend among attendees for the guy to wear a tux that matched the girl’s dress—amazing!

It’s been a few years—OK, decades, since I attended a prom, but if we would have asked our dates to wear a pink/mauve/green/chartreuse/etc. tux in order to match our gowns, we would have been unceremoniously dumped and left to sit home alone on prom night.

What I wanna know is when did guys start letting girls dress them?

Quote Of The Day

From Tom Maguire:

The same folks who can read the Constitution and Bill of Rights and find an unassailable right to abortion and gay marriage can’t find a right to possession of a firearm.

The Homecoming Queen’s Got A Gun

Most of the commentary about the recent SCOTUS Heller decision coming from the left is along the lines of Mayor Daley’s frothing, lickspittle denunciation of the ruling and how dare we be allowed to protect ourselves against thugs with guns. Evidently in ProgressiveLand, thugs, killers, rapists, thieves, etc. should be able to go about their business unmolested.

But this post isn’t about that. Instead I want to bring up an aspect of this that so far has been ignored by most of the press and pundits, and that is how handguns level the playing field—for women.

Here’s Megan McArdle:

“. . .guns are the only weapon that equalizes strength between attacker and attacked. It’s the only time when men’s greater speed, strength, and longer reach make no difference; if you pull the trigger first, you win.. . .This is an enormous social advance.”

Criminals and politicians will always be able to get guns, but it seems we finally will have a chance to protect ourselves against the criminals.

Protecting ourselves against politicians—criminal or otherwise, presents a thornier problem!

When Chickens Are Outlawed, Only Outlaws Will Have Chickens

A 40 year old Michigan man is accused of stabbing his mother in the neck with a fork after she refused his demand for money. He then fled on his bicycle and a short time later confronted two women he encountered on the street. The women reported he said something nasty to them and hit one of them over the head with 10 pounds of frozen chicken.

Another terrifying example of man’s inhumanity to poultry!

Quote Of The Day

From D. L. Hughley:

“It’s so funny because (Obama) ain’t a cool dude to me. He’s like a tall Urkel dude. But for the first black president, I’ll take him. Like, how bad a president is George Bush, when the country goes, ‘You know, we’ll try the black guy’.?”

Thanks, But No Thanks

Last week I did a post featuring a quote by Dwyer and Michaels criticizing Obama for holding up sandbagging operations in Quincy for a political photo-op.

Some commenters of the Democrat persuasion denounced this, saying how dare anyone criticize Mr. Wonderful for “helping’ with the effort.

As it turns out, Dwyer and Michaels (among others) were exactly right. This post by Quincy blogger Dave at Quincy Pundit, along with comments from people who were actually there working to hold back the flood, indicate that Obama’s excellent adventure in sandbagging held up the work for several hours.

I realize some people still believe Obama isn’t a conventional politician who will do whatever it takes to win, and instead is somehow “special” or “different”; but it is becoming more difficult for the Obama worshipers to hold on to their dreams in light of facts like these.

Headline Of The Day

Herding Self-Neutered Cats Is Impossible, Even When They Are Retiring

It seems that several retiring House Republicans, including Ray LaHood, have decided to side with Democrats on several key issues, rather than stand with the GOP, even though they have nothing to lose and have no fear of facing accountability from voters back home.

On close votes concerning unemployment insurance, federal parental leave, union authority, expanded children’s health insurance, women’s right and a massively bloated new GI Bill all voted with Democrats.

Being anti-partisan, I don’t find this particularly disturbing, but what seems to be happening is that we are moving to a one party system. By that I mean all politicians are Democrats, but the more liberal ones are called “Democrats” and the less liberal ones are called “Republicans’.

There really doesn’t seem to be that much difference between the two parties any more.

Good or bad—-who knows?
