Have You Ever Noticed…

…how Iowa QC bloggers are more concerned with local and civic matters and Illinois QC bloggers are more interested in national politics?

Showing civic concern in Iowa are these bloggers, here, here, and here.

For contrast, check out these Illinois QC blogs, here, here, and here.

The lone Illinois exception, maybe here.

My personal opinion about this is that those who live in the ILQCs realize the futility of fighting the Democrat Machine, but the Iowegians at least know they have a fighting chance against their government.

  1. I couldn’t agree more with your premise for this sad phenomena. As you may know, I tried to deal with local politics for over two years. Unless you enjoy dealing with rank idiots and bullies, it’s useless.

It’s only the Jacobs that seem to enjoy dragging any discussion down into childish drivel and personal attacks, and apparently they’re the only one with the spare time to devote to it as well.

They make it near impossible to have anything resembling an intelligent discussion of anything.

Don’t believe me? Try it sometime. Every blogger who has has had the same sad experience.

  2. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/03/26/AR2008032602916.html?sub=AR

The George Will article, titled, “Bleeding Hearts, but Tight Fists” discusses the disconnect between liberals compassion and their charitable giving (can anyone say ‘Al Gore’ giving -0- to charity when VP tax returns were released!) – as well as the overwhelming giving of Republican in comparrison.

  3. I am amazed at the foolishness of the left. Why is there no intelligent dialogue on real issues.

The left cries out – “Bush lied” when it is proven that the worldwide intelligence indicates that he was saying the same thing that the world was saying, what President Bill Clinton before him said and what most every Democrat was saying. Foolishness.

However, try to have a dialogue on Character and Integrity (sniper-gate) and Racism (Pastor Wright) – real issues – and they are silent.

The above article by George Will (an Independent if there ever was one) that shows clear documentation that the left talks a lot about ‘charity’ and ‘compassion’ yet falls short of actually doing much other than talking – and again they are silent.

He has shown that he reads this site – so where is TID.
Robbie comments elsewhere, as does PatT and others, but they are amazingly silent on the real issues that affect their Party (in an extremely negative manner).

Do you all feel as though there is no defense to these issues of hypocricy, racism and lack of integrity/ character?

  4. mowen, i wanted to come up here and at least explain my point of view. i certainly can’t speak for anyone else…

i did comment some on the wright issue. as i stated, i feel its not a gigantic issue, but clearly does show obama as dumb for associating with that man for so long. i don’t think it means he shares wrights beliefs, but even putting up with it is bad judgement. and a president needs to have good judgement. but no ones perfect, so i don’t think it should automatically disqualify him for office or anything. regarding what wright said, i think it was inflammatory and wrong. judging by what i have read that he said, it did sound like he was race baiting. who knows why he said it or in what context, but judging the quotes themselves, i think they look pretty bad…

here’s my thing in general. i don’t pay a lot of attention to the prez race. i don’t especially like or dislike any of the 3 candidates. if mccain wins, i wont be threatening to move to canada or anything. he seems like a pretty sensible dude. i actually think i would like hilary the least. she just seems fake and seems to represent what i hate most about politicians. so i would rather see obama in the general election i think.

with that said, i really don’t follow things… the sniper-gate refers to that quote where she said something about getting shot at in like bosnia right??? i am not playing dumb, merely haven’t followed the story. it sounds like a case of trying to sound important and experienced if you ask me, but maybe i am misinformed.

the other thing for me, in addition to my overall apathy, is that i am not really a democrat anymore. the last couple years made me realize that dems are just as corrupt and worthless as reps. i think i mentioned in another comment how fake and politican like pelosi sounded the other night while trying to avoid talking about the recession. i have never voted straight dem, but as a frothing liberal, they do align with me more often than not. my main criteria when voting is whether or not they have been effective in representing me and the rest of their area. i think too often politicians campaign on what they want instead of what the people they represent want.

regarding this thread, i didn’t read the story. i don’t know why dems give less to charity. i know personally i give lots of money and time to charity and have for several years since i worked for a year in the americorps. i can’t speak for others. i think those that don’t give to the less fortunate are pretty cruddy folks. i look forward to a day when my family is more stable economically and i can do a little more with my money. unfortunately, i am too much in debt still to be giving freely of my money!

anywho, this was an overly long post so i will stop now.

  5. also, when you say i comment elsewhere, i am not sure where you are talking about??? i regularly participate on thom white’s blogs, but those are political. and other than there and here, the only blog i comment on even as frequently as once a month would be scoundrel… and thats usually to talk about the cubs, or local qc stuff like restaurants.

  6. Thanks for the thoughts – I do wonder though, how one can say that the Wright comments are not a gigantic issue. Wright is the ultimate racist – he has made statements against whites that if a white would make against a black – well, they’d fire him, they’d firebomb the church, they’d try to bring him up on charges!

He also put forth these comments against Italians and Jewish people.

Wright also made (not out of context) anti-American and US-hate statements.

Obama was this man’s 20-year friend.
Obama sat in this man’s church for 20-years.

Wright did not make these comments in a vacuum.
    Obama knew about the comments.
Obama wrote about Wright’s comments in his book.
Obama did not invite Wright to Springfield for the announcement because of his reputation.

Does not this suggest a significant issue that a potential POTUS is so closely tied to a blatant and unapologetic racist and hater of the US?

What does this say about a potential POTUS’s judgement?

And Hillary (and Obama) with consistent lies to puff themselves up – what does this say about their integrity and character?

I am just at a loss for people either not caring about these issues – or in the case of the left – dismissing them as insignificant.

  7. On another front, I would hope that people decide their political affiliation based on Party philosophy, not individuals.

As you had stated, both Dem’s and Republicans fail. There are just as many D’s as R’s that have been caught in sex scandals, and just as many of each that have been caught with their hand in the cookie jar. Individual failures should live and die with said individuals (Obama and Hillary for their lies and puffing for instance – Obama for his poor judgment and potential racism/ affiliation with Wright).

Party philosophy is what dictates loyalty – reduced government, fiscal responsibility, lower taxes for all, free market economy, personal responsibility, preserving life – happen to be beliefs of mine. This leads me to be a Republican – even though Pres. Bush might not be carrying out the reduced government and fiscal responsibility in a manner that I feel represents Conservative beliefs.

  8. All your hand-wringing is so touching Tiger. Makes me a little misty-eyed.

But when your views are so cock-eyed and ill-informed, and you have the nasty habit of utterly ignoring everything someone who argues issues with you says, then don’t cry about how you can’t find any fools willing to indulge in your little charade. Seriously.
