A Rational Approach To Global Warming
From Fred Thompson on Radio Iowa:
We don’t know the extent to which it’s warming. We don’t know whether or not it’s part of a cycle. We’ve had cooling periods in our country. We don’t know the extent to which man-made causes are contributing to it. We don’t know what the long-term effect of it is going to be and what we can do about it….If we unilaterally do things precipitously, not only will we damage our economy but we won’t be doing very much good at all unless countries like Russia, or mainly China and India, participate….Before we start rushing off and having United Nations countries, you know, big as a postage stamp telling us what to do and what we must do and so forth, let’s double-down and make sure we understand the ramifications and the significance of what we know and let’s improve on what we don’t know.

Trying to take over the job of Mother Nature is a lot like playing chicken. Guess wrong and you are just as bad off as you still hit head on on go over the abyss.

i like that quote. those law and order writers must really be stepping it up for old freddy! with them on strike and all, i am sure they can sit around writing up great quotes for their former buddy!
i seriously do like that quote though. i do think we need to be better environmentally in this country. if only because its the right thing to do. and we can complain about russia and china all we want, but we still use more resources per capita than anyone else. additionally, we can be the standard bearer and give them something to shoot for. isn’t that what a global leader does?

It seems to me that most of the scientists can’t agree about anything on the subject.

Robbie, I agree we can do better here. I have been doing many of the things Al Gore lectures us about, not because I’m a frothing Greenie, but because I’m a frothing cheapo.
Saving energy and the environment saves money, and that is the way capitalistic countries get people to go along with policies—-it has to be in the public’s best interest to do so, not because Denmark will like us.
An interesting factoid is that the majority of countries who signed on to Kyoto have not met their goals—-Kyoto was just another empty gesture created by the “international community”.

Ned - so true. When people like Al Gore say “the debate is over”, that is a political argument and pure demagoguery, not a scientific opinion or position.
For scientists, the debate is NEVER over.
