We’re On The Road To Nowhere
In Sterling, on his way to a fundraiser with his professional fundraising “friends”, Phil Hare stopped long enough to spin the local press.
Concerning Denny Hastert resigning before his term is over Hare says “I think he wanted to make it more difficult for a Democrat to win, candidly, (b)ut I think we have a shot at winning this race.” Hare certainly has some personal knowledge about how to manipulate the system.
But still, what a hoot! A Democrat is as likely to win the 14th as a Republican is to win the 17th. Hare knows this, so why is he lying to us? Wouldn’t it be more honest to say that Lane Evans and Denny Hastert made a deal with the devil that the 14th would be a GOP district and the 17th would be a Dem district? And who really thinks Hare gives a damn about the voters; it’s party elites that count.
That would be the honest truth, but Hare assumes we are morons and don’t understand what’s going on with bipartisan gerrymandering.
Hare (obviously) endorses the Dem candidate for the 14th and says “I think people want change.” Unfortunately, Hare doesn’t think ‘change” is appropriate for the 17th where Democrats have had control for a generation. For our specially selected congressman, change is only good when it helps Democrats.
Do-Gooding Gone Bad
When I first read the story about the British teacher charged with inciting religious hatred after she allowed her 7 year old students to name a teddy bear Muhammad, I thought that someone teaching abroad should be well versed in the local customs and cultures.
Then I read that the teacher asked the students to name the bear and “Muhammad” was chosen.
In Islam, Muhammed is a common name to give people, but not animals. I suppose it is like Latin countries where “Jesus” is a popular name for boys, but not for teddy bears—-or something.
But whatever. The teacher, Gilliam Gibbons is now on trial in Khartoum for inciting religious hatred. Islamist extremists are agitating for her to be executed. The British government is not amused.
The Sudan government is saying this is no big deal, that it will be resolved with no one being beheaded.
Well, let’s hope. But how eager will Westerners be to assist African nations with the spectre of beheading looming large?
How does this help Africa?
Proof That Partisan Politics Makes You Stupid
Virginia is like Illinois in that you do not have to declare party affiliation ahead of voting, you just show up on primary day and tell the good people which ballot you want.
But for Republicans in Virginia, this isn’t good enough. Beginning with the Virginia primary to be held this February, the GOP will require those who take out a GOP ballot to first vow in writing they’ll vote for the party’s presidential nominee next fall. The Virginia Democrats have no such requirement.
Sheesh! How could any rational person “vow” to support an unknown candidate? Fortunately, there is no way this “loyalty oath” can be enforced.
As I’ve mentioned before, I usually take out a Democat ballot at primary time, mostly because all the action in RICO and IL is on the Democrat side. However, I do not consider myself a Democrat (or Republican for that matter).
I don’t really look for this “loyalty oath” business to catch on in Illinois, since the Democrats have such overwhelming power in this state.
The Virginia GOP may have worries about Democrats crossing over in order to effect the outcome on the GOP side, but let’s get real here—that would take way more planning and coordination than the Dems can manage.
This is the dumbest (political) thing I’ve seen today.
Disconnecting The Dots
This article in the San Francisco Chronicle is disconnected—-from reality.
The article concerns Jabbar Magruder, who is in the National Guard and served 11 months in Iraq, is chapter president of Iraq Veterans Against The War, and is currently pre-med at a LA university.
Magruder claims that the public doesn’t care about the war in Iraq and the veterans because anti-war movies like Redacted, Lions for Lambs, Rendition, etc. etc. are tanking.
Magruder is certainly entitled to his opinion, and as a Iraq war vet, he has a different perspective; but I don’t think he is correct about the reason these movies are doing so poorly at the box office.
In my view, the main reason these movies are tanking is because they are charging us to see the same stories we can see for free on network TV news shows, PBS and The New York Times online. Few people support the idea that giving $9.00 to rich Hollywood moguls, in order to see a crappy movie which reinforces liberal orthodoxy, is a patriotic duty, or even a sign of patriotism.
It is obvious these movies are vanity projects and not made for the domestic audience, but for the foreign anti-American markets. The Democrats and anti-war factions will still benefit, since liberal Hollywood forks out billions in contributions to Democrats and Democrat causes.
Contrary to Mr. Magruder’s opinion that “America doesn’t want to deal with Iraq, period”, I’d say America DOES want to deal with Iraq, but we are hungry for a different story about Iraq than the one we see every day on the nightly news.
Iraq isn’t just about soldiers raping 14 year old girls—-it’s also about bravery and sacrifice; not just of our military but also of the Iraqi people.
Give us some movies with those themes and we’ll come back.
My Heart Was Flyin’ Up Like A Rocket Ship, Down Like A Roller Coaster
Well, it ain’t yer daddy’s Palisades Park even if it is in New Jersey.
Commenter and former QC blogger, Huck Finn, sent me a link with a note saying magnetic catapults are the future of Naval aviation.
I was never in the Navy, so I take him at his word, but I would think this would be a fine recruiting tool for the Navy to draw people who have the right stuff to fly planes off ships.
Being a “landlubber”, I’d call this youtube link to the view from the front seat of Kingda Ka YeeeeeeHawwwww!!!!
Reason #5294557 Why the Approval Rating For the Democrat Controlled Congress Is 11%
The money quote from an article in the San Francisco Chronicle, “President Has Democrats Crying Uncle In Budget Showdown”:
Bewildered Democrats have concluded that Republicans simply want them to fail.
How dare those evil Republicans thwart the Democrat agenda!
Who knew the GOP could be so anti-Democrat Party?
Evidently, not the clueless Democrats—–11% is obviously too generous!
Hmmmmmm, I wonder what the approval rating is for the Democrat controlled Illinois legislature?
Hey! You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away
We know that terrorists hide in mosques, in trucks marked with the Red Cross or Red Crescent, some even hide as journalists.
But Sunday, in a wedding procession near Taji, Iraqi soldiers discovered a terrorist hiding in a wedding dress—-and it wasn’t a lady terrorist, either.
It seems both the “bride” and “groom” were wanted terrorists and both spent their honeymoon in separate suites at the local detention center.
Check out a photo of the lovely Bridezilla here. It’s easy to see why the Iraqi soldiers weren’t fooled by this paragon of feminine beauty—-dude definitely DOESN’T look like a lady!
Hoot Of The Day
That would be our specially selected, taxpayer funded Big Labor lobbyist sending his shill out to navigate the treacherous minefields of immigration.
Specifically, I refer to this article in today’s Dispatch concerning whether employers requiring their workers to speak English on the job should be sued by the federal government.
Hare needs a better spinmeister, because here’s what his shill said about this:
(Hare) opposed English-only workplaces unless appropriate exceptions are made under legitimate business or safety purposes…He detests discrimination in the workplace.
Yeah, I’m sure Hare “detests” AIDS, cancer and drowning kittens, too.
Sheesh! Making an exception for “legitimate business or safety purposes” is a hole big enough for a Teamster to drive through.
Hare can’t make the bold stand because Hispanic votes are in play here. Unfortunately for him, gringo votes are also in play in the 17th. If you can get to the Dispatch article, be sure to read the comments—–practically every one of them excoriates Hare.
One thing for sure—-when it comes to public support, Hare ain’t yer daddy’s Lane Evans!
