What The Democrats Won’t Tell You About SCHIP
Any time I see some idiotic framing of a piece of legislation like “Why Does George Bush Hate Children” I know there is some serious demagoguery going on.
Normally, I wouldn’t have paid much attention to the new SCHIP program because after all “It’s For The Children” ™. But when I saw the Why Does Bush Hate Children idiocy, I decided to take a look at the bill.
Here’s what I discovered:
1. In order to cover the expanded healthcare promises, Congress is cutting Medicare reimbursements by 12% to 16% after 2009.
2. SCHIP will offer states more federal money to enroll new children for the next 5 years, then abruptly cut off all funding, leaving the states to fend for themselves to cover the newly enrolled kids who left private insurance plans to go with the “free” government plan.
3. Seniors in 22 states will lose their Medicare Advantage benefits.
4. The Congressional Budget Office says this bill would shift 2.1 million children who are currently in private health care plans to less effective government-run health care.
5. Illegal immigrants can apply and receive SCHIP and Medicaid benefits because the requirement to show proof of citizenship is waived.
6. People up to age 25 are considered “children” and can receive SCHIP benefits.
7. A program originally designed to aid minor children of low income families is instead being used to expand the welfare state and sides with bureaucracy and illegal immigrants instead of needy children and seniors.
8. FACT: Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid eat up 40% of the federal budget, and we cannot pay for that, with an $8 trillion actual debt and a $50 trillion unfunded liability.
The full story with links is here.
George Bush certainly isn’t doing himself (or us) any favors by falling back on the tired “socialized medicine” trope, and he would have a stronger case by laying out the facts shown above.
Needless to say, our specially selected Congressman voted FOR this abomination. Will anyone hold Hare accountable for his many troubling votes come November 2008?
The fact that Hare voted for a bill that gives illegals access to the Medicaid and SCHIP programs is enough cause to throw Hare out on his ample @ss.
QCE, come now, do you really expect the left hate-mongers to actually know what they are talking about – to actually get informed about both sides of an issue.
For them it is too simple – we have a blemish, so let’s let the government fix it – and we’ll “tax the rich” in order to pay for the (inflated) cost.
They see a need (whether real or not) and they go off.
It is a shame that people cannot just consider all options, thoughtfully, and determine a proper response, with a consequences in mind. Then act.
No, let’s rant.
Let’s call Bush names.
Let’s blame Bush.
Too easy for simple minds. But it sells.

So…billions for Iraq and the “war against terror” that has killed 3000 on our shores…but zip for health care which could save tens of thousands, here, without killing anyone. Hmmmm…makes sense?

schqc, it’s not “zip for health care”, it’s a little more complex than that.
Read the link and quit falling for all the Democrat demagoguery.

schqc, what a telling post. As QCE pointed out, you might want to check facts before spewing propoganda. The Federal Government spends plenty on healthcare presently. Of course, you would like a system more like Canada I suppose – that is your right, but please, make reasonable and factual statements!
