“Sheets” Finally Gets One Right
Senator Robert Byrd (D-KKK) released this statement concerning the Immigration Reform bill: “…no matter how much lipstick they put on this bill, it is still amnesty, and I will oppose it.”

Dave Barrett (Moline Democrat Maverick) needs to see this…he is of the opinion that the American public yearns to help these poor tortured souls (illegals) gain citizenship…

Dave Barrett is an activist and an advocate and I wouldn’t spend 5 seconds trying to change his mind—-it can’t be changed, even if Cesar Chavez told him he was wrong, Barrett would still hold on to his beliefs. It’s not just what he believes, it’s who he is.
And let’s get real here, Barrett frames the immigration debate as compassionate, caring America vs. punitive, vindictive America, which proves he isn’t interested in winning hearts and minds, or changing people’s opinions, he’s only interested in stoking his own moral vanity.

Ouch. I guess being Dave Barrett isn’t a very positive thing.

There is nothing wrong with being an activist/advocate, but the problem with some is that they have the fervor and zeal of a fundamentalist and are not accepting of new ideas or information. Hence you get the we’re good America and anyone who opposes us is racist, bigoted, punitive, vindictive, hateful, etc. America. This stops debate cold and does not win any converts, but at least the zealots can feel good about themselves because they are the self-described “good America”.

QCE – are we still talking about Barrett or did we switch to Mowen???
Just kidding. I can’t miss a chance for a jab at Mowen. I really do deplore his new found activity on this blog. But maybe that is me being those things listed above? I can handle your democrat hating because I know you do it in a fair manner. But I honestly in my heart see Mowen as exactly what you describe above. I am sure he is a human just trying to do the best for himself and his family, but I just can’t see that through his sea of garbage that he types.
Sorry for going on a Mowen rant.

My “democrat hating”? I’ve been happily married to a Democrat for 26 years, which proves that co-existence is possible!;-)

I mean democrat hating in the nicest possible ways! I should have said your propensity to find flaws in the democrat officials as opposed to republicans.
Not that there is anything wrong with that, because as you always say, you would be happy to post about dumb republicans if someone gave you source material.

Robbie, what part of my comments do you so despise? Please tell me one, seriously one Democrat politician that stands FOR something – and not against a Republican policy?
I reserve the right to take Gore out of this discussion, as (1) he rants against Republicans more than anyone and (2) global-warming does not constitute standing for something, as he profits from his position and this theory.
Do you have -1-?
And if you choose to play this game, please tell me the pro-active positive stances this person takes.
Thank you.

Robbie, I withdraw my challenge. I do not want to get into a tit-for-tat. I think that the Dem’s are overly negative and have no conviction, no heartfelt positions (ie Bill Clinton basing policy on public opinion), but I understand that you believe that they all have deep-conviction.
It would be a meaningless debate – no need to go there. I apologize for picking a fight.

I am happy to pick up the ball for Mowen…
For anyone that has watched the debates, it is clear that the Republicans are discussing ideas, while the Democrats are dealing with criticism.
Consider the issues for each party. It seems to me that the parties believe in the following (not individuals, but parties), let’s face it, the Republican politicians are far from acting in a manner that would make a Republican proud (the same cannot be said of the Democrats).
Republicans stand for,
Lower Taxes
Less Government
Free Market Economy
National Security
Democrats stand for,
National Healthcare
Global Warming
Against Iraq
Increased Taxes (less personal financial freedom)
More Welfare
Again, the elected Republicans are not doing their jobs, but the party beliefs still stand.
