Should 5% Appear Too Small Be Thankful I Don’t Take It All

I’m not going to link to Obama’s and Edwards’ plans for “universal” health care. Anyone interested in this stuff will already know about it and those of us who believe that the federal government is too incompetent to find it’s nether region with both hands will have wandered off long ago. I guess that’s one of the major divides between liberals and conservatives.

But nevermind that. USA Today is reporting that due to accounting practices in the federal government, there is 59 TRILLION hidden debt in the US government due to social security, medicare and federal retirement plans. These account for 85% of taxpayer liabilities.

Phil Hare may be able to rattle off how much the war in Iraq costs us per minute, but will Hare tell us what his federal retirement plan is costing us per minute? Hare is double dipping—-he gets federal retirement due his 20+ years of being Evans’ toady, plus he gets his salary for being our Specially Selected Congressman. Sweet, huh? Will any of our brave media outlets ask Hare what he plans to do about the 59 trillion that funds his retirement ? I ain’t gonna hold my breath.

But to hell with local politics—-the politburo has the death grip on that—a better question would be to the 18 people currently running for POTUS, which is “Just what the hell are you going to do about this unfunded liability?”

I do hope someone brings all our socialist Democrat candidates back to earth by demanding they define their plan to  fix the 59 TRILLION before they add TRILLIONS more for “universal” healthcare.

UPDATE: For those frothing about Obama’s healthcare plan, check out this post by our Hands Across the Water left-wing blogger.(Link fixed)

  1. I actually wish there was some kind of Universal health care plan designed for the “citizens” of this country. But I have yet to be wowed by any real possibility of a government intelligent enough to run it. Once money is in the Governments pocket it is a lot like the Illinois Lottery money originally designated for improving schools, lost in personal pork projects.

  2. Oh yeah, that reminds me of something I saw today at CapitolFax.

Apparently Blogo has said he would change his position on expanding casinos if the proceeds from the additional casinos would fund his universal health care scheme.

I thought all the gambling money was supposed to go to schools!

    Pathetic.

  3. Can you honestly say you are satisfied with government at the state or national level? Regardless of political party, is anyone in Springfield or D.C. really interested in helping anyone but themselves??? Even on a local level things are crazy. I am sorry, but I have zero confidence in my government. Our system is broken beyond repair.

  4. Robbie, though I bitch and moan about the system all the time, the system is fine. It has worked for over two hundred years. (Some days I feel I have been around for the whole experience.) The problem is the Foxes have stolen the key to the hen house and are holding the eggs hostage as they consume the chickens. It is the politicians and the individuals who cannot get past party politics that are the problem with the system. But getting them out of the hen house while saving the chickens and the eggs is the problem.

  5. Maybe I am just young and still too idealistic or something, but I feel like this just isn’t working. We still have a system set up to benefit the few at the expense of many. We just have a rouse that the common man can rise up and over come. And while that may be more true now than in any civilization previous to us, there is still so far to go.

I just really hate our governmental system and think it is part of the problem, not the solution. I don’t know what I could propose that would work better, but there has to be something.

  6. Robbie, I don’t think our system is broken, it’s the politicians who are wrecking it.
It would go a long way in correcting the problems in our system if politicians caught in wrong doing and illegal activities would take a cue from Japanese politicians and commit hari-kari.

  7. [...] Help Is On The Way My Blogdaddy Robbie is a young dude and is totally and thoroughly disgusted, frustrated and angered by the status quo of American politics. This is one of his typical rants against the machine. Or check out his comments in this post. [...]
