What if all the Mexicans, both legal and illegal had stayed in their home country and fought, demonstrated, rallied and demanded that the Mexican government address economic parity, justice, minority rights and poverty in Mexico?

Would we be fighting about “immigrant rights” and “immigration reform” in the USA?

Addendum: These people deserve “amnesty” and a place in US society more than Mexicans who won’t  stand up for themselves against their own government.

  1. You certainly have an interesting question there… But do you think that Europeans should have also stayed in Europe and demanded change? Why was it ok for English, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Polish, Irish, and any other nationality to flee their crappy nation and come to America for a better life??? Yet now, in the 21st century, we have restrictive immigration laws that prohibit those from Mexico and Latin America from doing the same thing all our ancestors did the past few centuries???

Additionally, why do we find it ok to invade countries and start civil wars in order to overthrow oppressive governments, but aren’t willing to take in the citizens that wish to flee oppressive and corrupt governments???

(Just me thinking outloud… I would love to hear responses to these questions. Unless it is Mwaloki, or whatever his name was, coming to rip on me for disagreeing with him…)

  2. The USA was more “empty” during the mass migrations of Europeans, plus we didn’t have the massive amount of government taxpayer financed programs and facilities (schools, hospitals, etc) that we do now. But yeah, I’m sure most of them would have preferred to stay in their home countries if the conditions would have been more condusive, don’t you?
I just don’t get people coming to this country illegally and demanding rights from the USA instead of from their own countries.
If you read the link to the latimes editorial, you’d know that I am very much in favor of allowing ALL Iraqis who have aided us immediate immigration rights—-when we pull out of Iraq they will be slaughtered like sheep. We’ve got to do everything we can to save them since we placed them in peril. We really ARE morally responsible for them—–poor Hispanics, not so much.
PS: How do you like my new theme? I think it makes my butt look big. What do you think—-come on, you can tell me. ;-)

  3. Yeah, I understand current immigration is difference circumstances than 19th century Europeans. But the thing that honestly gets me caught up is when people start talking about legal vs. illegal immigration.

You get some close minded person of say German descent who says something along the lines of ‘my family immigrated legally and now these Mexicans aren’t doing it correctly.’ And that analogy just blows my mind as there was no concept of illegal immigration back then.

Though I don’t necessarily think space should be a constraint on immigration. I would have to think we are still much less densely populated than most other countries. I do agree now that immigration has huge ramifications as far as social programs.

The theme… I will have to message you about it… I’m not a huge fan.

  4. If we cut and run in Iraq then the Iraqi people that are supporting us there deserve the right to jump to the head of the immigration line.

  5. I do agree with that. They put their necks on the line to help us. The least we can do is keep them from getting executed once we leave. Though I really don’t think all the Muslim haters we have in the U.S. since 9/11 would like a bunch of Iraqis on our soil. Because remember, Iraq caused 9/11! Any facts that say otherwise are a giant democrat/media controlled smear campaign against God and his servants aka the Republican party!

P.S. – I actually like this theme. Its kinda boring, but very functional.
