Dazed and Confused
Poor Phil Hare. It appears that his new duties as Specially Selected Congressman are causing him to speak out of both sides of his mouth!
The Quincy Herald Whig reports that at an appearance last week at Titan Wheel International, our Specially Selected Congressman said this about Titan Wheel: “These are the types of corporations and companies that we need to be looking at protecting to make sure we don’t lose them, either through bad governmental decisions or trade policies that don’t make any sense”.
Unfortunately, later in the day, a news release was issued by Hare’s staff in DC which said U.S. “trade policies have lined the pockets of big corporations at the expense of average families.”
I guess Hare was for business before he was against it, or whatever. But does Big Labor fear its $227,050.00 investment in Hare is for naught? Probably not. As you will see in my post below(We’re Not Gonna Take It), Illinois Democrats are hard at work killing small businesses even as Specially Selected Congressman Hare attempts to kill big business.
Gee, I wonder why more and more businesses are locating out of state and out of country?
Who do the Democrats think will finance their socialist schemes (universal healthcare, etc.)?
I’m sure it’s a mystery to Democrats, even if the rest of us can see the handwriting on the wall.
Update: Don’t expect to see the Quincy Herald Whig style of “The Emperor Has No Clothes” reporting from QC media. The prime directive of QC media is ” Do No Harm To Democrats.”
UPDATE: Hare’s first quarter campaign fundraising report is in and unsurprisingly, nearly 85% of his money came from big labor PACs. Maybe next time Gianulius could specially select a Congressman for us who knew how to bring in business instead of alienate it. Without any business, there will be no unions. With no jobs there will be no taxpayers to support the Bureaucrats Union. I continue to be amazed by the local Democrat political class that thinks by killing business they are helping unions.

Huh?!
This is only a contradiction if Titan Wheel International is one of the big corporations that is benefiting from the trade policies at the expense of the public that Congressman Hare was talking about. I am glad that Phil Hare is our Congressman rather than you since he seems to be able to make distinctions between corporations that operate in ways that benefit the public and those that operate in ways determental to the public that you apparently can not.
Oh, by the way — Phil Hare is Congressman because he was elected in the general election when he defeated Republican nominee Andrea Zinga. He was selected by the voters. Remember?

Am I shocked that you’re glad that Specially Seleted Phil is our Congressman—-um, no. Am I shocked that you think that he was “selected” by the voters”—-not so much, since he was “selected” by the Democrat elites and not so much the “voters.” In your mind, the Democrat elites are the same as the “voters”.
Some of us would disagree.

Your reply indicates that you don’t believe your own arguments. I refuted your main point and you didn’t bat an eyelash. Readers of your blog would be foolish to ascribe any importance to anything you say because if they did they would be in the untenable position of taking what you say more seriously than you do yourself.

I’m sorry Barrett, but I have no idea what you’re saying. Better luck next time.

In all fairness QCE, Hare did beat Zinga. If voters felt the dem elite were too shady in their selection they had ample opportunity to vote for Zinga. Though I personally do think the whole process was shady. Undemocratic? Who knows.
I must admit, I don’t see the contradiction that you do. Hare toured a facility and said he thought it was good to see companies being successful. The press release goes along with what I have been hearing him say for many months now, that CEO’s and big companies like Exxon, Mobil, etc… are getting rich at the expense of the public. I can very easily be pro business while being anti exploitation of workers and consumers.

Excuse me if was less than excited about the “choice” between voting for the spawn of a dirty back room deal or the clueless Zinga. The idea that Hare was elected “democratically” is about as real as the idea that Saddam Hussein was elected “democratically” because he got 100% of the votes in his last election. But I certainly understand why Democrat activists want to push the idea that Hare is legitimate, even though some of us believe otherwise. Have you ever wondered who would have won the “election” if the committeemen could have cast their votes anonymously? No wonder Hare wants to do away with secret voting for unions.
As for the good corp. vs. bad corp. thing. I’m sticking to my guns, and the political reporter who did story agrees with me. The thing about the “bad” corps. is that many small “good” corps. depend on the bad for their business. We lost a whole bunch of “good” small businesses here after the farm manufacturers went down in the 80s. While I don’t think workers (or consumers) should be “exploited”, no matter what size company they work for, Hare doesn’t exactly have the moral authority to judge since he is so firmly in Big Labor’s pocket (which also has “exploitation” issues) and has no credibility.
Besides, globalization is here whether Hare and his protectionist pals want it or not.
